Arrangement of Project Cargo Handling

Project cargo is a type of heavy-lift and out-of-gauge one, typically having high value. To prepare the operation for handling such challenging loads, it is important not to damage the cargo, but the infrastructure involved as well: berths, STS cranes, motor vehicles, roads, lines and communication channels. This requires a thorough study of the entire loading process, first on paper, and then the project phased implementation during transportation.
During handling operation, we provide:
  • Maximum use of port infrastructure, berthing facilities;
  • Involvement of additional equipment, certified personnel;
  • Development of fastening / unfastening schemes;
  • Provision of technical equipment and separation materials;
  • Drawing up documents, supervisory formalities, obtaining permits.

Handling Capacities

"Sea Port of St. Petersburg"

The key partner of Universal Forwarder in handling project cargo in the Baltic is "Sea Port of St. Petersburg". We prepare handling nuclear reactors in the port, space rockets, electric trains, DSVs, gas turbines and electric generators, distillation columns and other industrial equipment.

Dockers have many years of experience in the development of operating process charts and the manufacture of special devices for handling oversized cargo. We engage the available port infrastructure, including railway and crane tracks, roads, various heavy-lifting equipment, including two 140-tonne Liebherr mobile cranes working in tandem.

"Taganrog Commercial Sea Port"

Handling operations for project cargo in the Azov-Black Sea basin are carried out at the berths of "Taganrog Commercial Sea Port" outfited for reloading various industrial tanks, reservoirs, heat exchangers, steam generators, wind turbines and other equipment with a load weigh under 40 tonnes.

The proximity of the mouth of the Don River makes it possible to effectively use all the capabilities of the marine terminal, involving the ‘river-sea’ class vessels for the delivery and reloading of export and import equipment. The Port of Taganrog is an important hub for the outbound domestic engineering products for the petrochemical and energy industries, as well as for inbound high-tech foreign equipment with further delivery to various enterprises in Central Russia, the Volga region, and the Urals.

Applied Handling and Transport Equipment

  • Harbour cranes
    Gantry cranes of lifting capacity up to 40 tonnes provide operations with individual components and parts of heavy equipment transported in boxes or without packaging, and Liebherr mobile cranes with a capacity of up to 140 tonnes allow loading out-of-gauge steel industrial structures and finished engineering cargo.
  • The "Bogatyr 4" Crane Ship
    We have in operational management the "Bogatyr 4" heavy derrick barge with a lifting capacity of 300 tonnes that performs different (Berth-to-Ship, Berth-to-Berth, Ship-to-Ship, etc.) handling operations at terminals within the basin of Greater Port of St. Petersburg.
  • Trailers, lifts
    To comply with the technology of transport processing, we involve a variety of vehicles, hoisting gear and other auxiliary mechanisms: terminal tractors, multi-axle semi-trailers, MAFI roll / cargo trailers, carts, spreader bars, etc.
