Universal Forwarder arranged the shipment of wood pellets with a shipload volume of 32,800 tonnes. This is a record figure not only for the Russian, but also for the world market of fuel pellets.
Loading the cargo onto the MV Cielo Di Monaco was performed at the berths of "Sea Port of St. Petersburg". The full shipload was accumulated at the terminal within three weeks. The volume of 30 000 tonnes was constantly maintained at the shipper's warehouse and delivered to the port as necessary for shipments. The nomenclature of the cargo is wood pellets with a diameter of 6 x 8 mm (in a ratio of 50/50). The fuel pellets are delivered to the port by trucks, packed in big-bags or stuffed in containers.
The standard volume of a shipload of fuel pellets is usually 3000 to 10000 tonnes. The volume of prepared shipment amounted to 32 800 tonnes, or about 460 open-top wagons or 1,500 Dry Cube 20ft containers. The shipment of the record batch became possible, firstly, due to the growth in export sales, and secondly, thanks to the effective management of the production capacities of "Sea Port of St. Petersburg". This is the first shipment ever of such volume of cargo at a time from a Russian port.
The MV Cielo Di Monaco will proceed to the Dutch Port of Vlissingen and further to the final consignee. Now shipments of wood pellets to the EU countries are carried out one to three times a week. It is expected that large-tonnage shiploads will become regular.
“Despite the adverse weather, the stevedore managed to keep the loading performance, reaching daily rate of 4 200 tonnes, which is also a kind of record for fuel pellets,” says Irina Davidyan, General Director, Universal Forwarder. “Sea Port of St. Petersburg once again demonstrated its high professionalism and readiness to meet the needs of customers participating in this project.”
“Our cooperation with Sea Port of St. Petersburg has a long history: we have been exporting wood pellets to Europe via the port for 15 years now” said Mikhail Volkun, an employee of the goods exporter CM Biomass Partners. “We used to ship up to 12 000 tonnes at a time, quite large shipments for the Russian pellet market. This time, almost 33 000 tonnes has become an absolute record for handling wood pellets in the history of Russian pellets market. We are very pleased with such a qualitative leap, because if we work with a large-tonnage fleet, it is possible to implement the ambitious plans that the company has outlined for the next five years,” the spokesperson said.ООО «Универсальный Экспедитор» — крупный логистический оператор, предоставляющий комплексные и эффективные решения для своих клиентов.
